Top Self Storage Questions
Do your self storage locations offer outside storage as well as inside?
Yes! Sunshine Self Storage offers both. It is important to know if the self storage company you will work with will have storage to meet all your needs. It is beneficial to have an indoor unit for convenient loading and organizing while not having to worry about the weather. However, if you also have larger items to store (boats, RVs, ATVs, etc.), you will want the ease of an outdoor unit so you can drive up to the door.
What items cannot be stored?
Most storage companies will have a similar list of prohibited items (flammable liquids, fuels, explosives, etc.) but it is always best to ask before selecting a facility to store your items.
Is climate controlled storage available?
Most storage facilities offer climate-controlled storage, but you don’t want to assume they do. We all know when living in Florida to keep our items in good condition that a safe temperature and humidity level is required. All of our locations provide indoor climate-controlled storage facilities.
What do you do for pest control?
No one wants to deal with bugs or rodents, especially in your storage unit! A storage company you want to work with will have a prevention plan in place. At Sunshine Self Storage, all of our storage units and properties are treated for pests on a regular basis.
When can I access my self storage unit?
Be sure to ask when you can get at your stuff! Are you limited to access from only 8:00am-5:00pm? Most of our Sunshine Self Storage Florida locations (Miramar, FL; Pembroke Pines, FL; Cooper City, FL; Hollywood, FL; Boca Raton, FL; Pensacola, FL; Ensley, FL) offer unlimited access to your unit (24/7/365) based on location. How is the facility secured?
You need to know that your storage facility will keep your belongings safe. There is a wide range of security available from different self storage companies – from bringing your own padlock to guarded sites. Our security varies by facility, but typically includes gated access, surveillance cameras, and individual alarms on each storage unit door. Two of our locations also have an after-hours security guard present!
Do your self storage locations offer moving trucks?
You’ll find many self storage locations with agreements with moving companies or trucks for rent. At nearly all of our Sunshine Self Storage locations, we are pleased to present you with convenient truck rental options. Services vary by location.
Do I have to rent for multiple months?
When researching your self storage needs you will want to know if you need to commit to contract of a certain length or if flexible month-to-month lease terms are available. Contact us or rent your unit online for our best month-to-month agreements and pricing.
Can I pay online and/or set-up automatic payments?
Most places accept checks but it’s always nice to know that the convenience of online bill pay or even auto-pay is available. At Sunshine Self Storage, we offer both autopay and online payment directly through our website!
Do I need insurance?
You need to ask the self-storage company you are considering if they insure the property stored at their facility. Most likely they do not, and you will be responsible for your property. Check if your homeowners’ or renters’ insurance policies cover self-storage; some, but not all, will. If it isn’t covered, you can independently purchase an affordable insurance policy with us for your unit.
